The federal deficits were around $300B a year during the GOP/Bush years. Thats not even CLOSE to what we're doing now which is 5x as much

I always love this generic line. What exactly do you plan to cut that isn't going to lead to greater job losses (decreased tax revenue) and have a negative impact on the economy as a whole?

The problem is not Democrats or Republicans, the problem is politicians and their spending habits.

The American citizen constantly gets poked fun at for their debt, they are told they must cut spending, stop using credit cards, live within their means....

Yet our elected officials in that LA-LA land called Washington DC live on another plane of existence.

And as long as American citizens continue to elect these elitists nothing will change....

You want to cut the debt? Get rid of the elitists who now run the American government...

Oh and to you too.... You've become a caricature of yourself with all the s....
Um, the public threw the GOP out of Congress because of deficit spending levels which were 20% of what they are now..

As for me becoming a caricature of yourself with the , if people didnt say so many stupid things, I wouldnt be , like someone who has no problem with $1.5T in deficit spending, but moaned and groaned about $300B under the GOP/Bush years .. Yep, you've earned another one

Bankruptcy is not the end. A couple of days ago there was a report on that whole topic and they said that Spain has already been bankrupt as a country more than a dozen times throughout its history

Actually the problem is a Democratic/Republican one. Democrats non stop ask for freebees, healthcare, increased welfare, medicare, housing, utilities, whatever you guys can get for FREE, except one thing, its not FREE.

Democrats rally against "corporate welfare", but you want tax credits for things like energy research, and then get outraged when those credits are used.

Ugh... here is what you don't get: During the Bush/GOP part, instead of going into a reckless war in Iraq and cutting taxes needlessly, we should have been having a budget surplus used to pay down the national debt since we were in financially decent times (house of cards, yes, but we could have had surpluses).

Instead, they were spending us into deficit and debt so that when an actual financial crisis came along, we were already in debt to our ears before we had to struggle to help muzzle the financial crisis instead of having a nice, tidy rainy-day fund set aside.

That's why people don't complain as much.

Ahh, here is what you dont get.. There was NEVER a surplus.

Let alone the fact that liberals want to now pretend that deficit spending = a stimulus, but then in the next breath, proclaim that deficit spending caused the financial crisis.

YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

We shouldn't have to raise the debt ceiling. Obama and his Dem buddies need to stop spending already!

But of course, since the US has not defaulted on its debt, I hope this thread is at least being threadjacked in a useful direction.
