True. I just don't think we should have any government sanctioned holidays or special months geared at any one segment of the population.

The OP thinks that black people will riot if you speak badly about black history month. Enough said.

My point is not to force anyone to stop anything, I'm simply questioning whether the current practices are working or if there might be a better way to get to the final goal.

But what is the final goal? Is it equality, or special treatment? It can't be both.

Blacks, etc. should protest if they are talked badly about.

Nobody has stopped anything. I think you are astroturfing.

As has already been said, as an Irish-American, I don't ask that the rest of America come out and celebrate St Patrick's day. Frankly its basically become nothing more than an excuse for all Americans to go out and get ****-drunk which is kind of sad since that really has zilch to do with St Patrick's day...

"Shoot, let's eat corned beef and cabbage and drink ourselves under the table and pretend like we're Irish for a day!!!"

Let's stop and ask ourselves how respectful that TRULY sounds?

I've always found that pretty funny. "Let's commemorate the victory of some other country's victory over another country by getting wasted while eating tacos!" for Cinco De Mayo.

I don't consider black pride month, or breast cancer awareness month for that matter, a "holiday". Maybe where you are from but where I sit it's just another way to draw attention to something. I don't feel any of it is necessary though so I ingnore it all.

St. Patrick's Day compared to Gay Pride Month.

Columbus Day compared to Black Pride Month.

Do you see any difference when you really look at these celebratory periods? Try very hard to see what I am saying.
