Increasing the amount of gases in the atmosphere that trap heat raises the global temp. Decreasing the amount would slow the warming process.

Energy conservation and efficiency would do a lot to make us energy independent, but we should switch to nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, and create our own bio-fuels, not ethanol, but the fuel created with algae.

How do you decrease the amount expelled into the atmosphere?

I like geothermal for individual houses....as well as solar water heating.

Dear Professor Pilmer,

"The volcanic eruption in Icelan... has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet.

Considering that not much has been done in the last five years, point that out isn't saying much.

Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - it's that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow, and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans, and all animal life.

And, of course no one you know that no one is thinking about the eliminating of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. And of course you also no that too much of anything will kill you.

Proper balance old chap, everything in proper balance.

I know, it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cents light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs . . . well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

Only if you feel that it is disheartening to have far lower operating cost per mile traveled, not having tons of plastic bags fluttering all over the house, and having lower water bills a thing to be disheartened by. As for non-green cleaning supplies, most of use clean our home rather regularly so it was easy just waiting for those supplies to run out before replacing them with the green variety.

If two squares of toilet paper get the job done...

As for my SUV and "speedboat", I always found sailing to be far cooler, my Kayak is far superior for fishing, and lord knows how people towed boats before their arrival on scene. Of course in the present economic climate a lot of speed boats are sitting in the repo yard anyway, so wtf.

One last thing, whether the science project was green or one to prove that global warming is a huge hoax, parents will be staying up past mid-night regardless.

Well that was enough fun for one post.

volcanoes cool the planet.. the coming winters are going to be brutally cold with all the volcanoes erupting these days, so i figure we need more caron in the atmosphere. just look at all the winter records that were broken even with 385 parts per million c02 in the atmosphere..

just imagine if al gore had got that number down to 250 parts per million??? brr, we would be breaking even colder winter records

We were just setting heat records in the past couple of weeks around the country. From 2000-2010 it was the hottest decade on record. Last year was the hottest average global temp on record.

/sigh

Read closely the reports on that claim. Pay special attention to the manner in which they calculate it and the weights they use.

I'm sure that if we continuously add heat trapping gases to the atmosphere, more heat will not be trapped.

/sigh
