One of the candidates for the mayor slot in Miami-Dade county is a former City employee. He receives $10,000/month pension having worked for 25 years with the city government. He is currently 57 years of age. The previous position was not a life endangerment one, it was an office job.
I find it amazing that a public servant should be able to receive a so much money for so few years in the workforce.
Miami actually has a cost of living of half of NYC, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, etc.
My neighbor worked 35 years for the State of Virginia and after her health insurance premium is deducted from her pension, she nets about $800 a month.

Is this atypical in your area?
I live in Miami and this is common...furthermore the people DESERVE it for electing these fresh off the boat banana republic politicians TIME and TIME again.

If your referring to former county commissioner Carlos Gimenez, who was also Miami city manager and fire chief - my guess is that it's because he gets a pension from each of those jobs.
We have a security guard at where I work, who has a pension from the military, a pension from the police department, and one from the city. (and he gets senior discounts on top of that, while still working 20 hours a week).
