While there is correlation between socioeconomic status and achievement, there is also correlation between race and achievement. Is it the natural result of variation in students’ genetic makeup and natural ability, cultural and parenting differences, or socioeconomic levels?
Unless you people are willing to say Asians are genetically superior intellectually to whites (based on test scores)...the smart answer would be Socioeconomic status or Parenting Style.

a lot of people would say the difference between whites and blacks is IQ/genetic and the difference between whites and Asians is parenting style
The main difference is money. Many white kids who struggle come from homes that have enough money to afford top notch tutoring. Many children of other races who struggle do not.
People are often quick to point out that even minority children who attend schools in affulent areas lag behind the white kids. What is left out of the equation is the fact that these minority children often times come from families that make half the income or less than the average student's family who attends the affluent school.
Black, Hispanic, Asian, Jewish Norwegians from Mars that have the same amount of money as the average families in the affluent neighborhoods can afford the top notch tutors. In turn, their kids don't struggle.

Perhaps we have misjudged these pseudoscientists as racist, when really they're just pervy Asiaphiles.

While statistics say absolutely nothing about an individual, they do say things about general populations. In many areas of IQ, Asians do score higher than Western caucasians. I don't see a problem acknowledging this. It does not imply that any specific caucasian is less intelligent, or would necessarily score better on IQ tests than a specific Asian. It just says that if you give the two groups tests on intelligence, the Asians will probably score better overall.
Statistics is an interesting field that is typically misunderstood by those who have not familiarized themselves with it. For example, a bell curve charting the IQ distribution of men will typically be much more flat than one charting women's IQs. In other words, there are more women clustered around the average IQ, while there are more men at the ends (very gifted versus very intellectually challenged). However, the highest IQ recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records belongs to a woman. While you might predict that the highest IQ should belong to a male, since they have more individuals at the high end of IQ, this doesn't make any of the statistics wrong or less reliable.
The "smart" answer, in my opinion, would involve not starting from the premise that caucasians are the smartest race on earth, because we are caucasian.
