Wow you people have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe you should actually go to church and talk to Christians instead of reading atheist blogs. It's like asking a Buddhist from North Korea to explain to you what Islam and Muslims are

So you think American Evangelical Christians = all Christians in America?

Try again.

So, what is an evangelical Christian?

The National Association of Evangelicals defines an evangelical as someone:
  • who believes that the Bible is authoritative
  • who has had a born-again experience
  • who shares this message of faith.
To evangelize means you explain your beliefs to others with the view that they might want to adopt your beliefs. An evangelist is someone who preaches the Gospel to try to get people saved and on their way to Heaven. The English words come from Greek words that mean to announce good news, bring a good message, or preach the Gospel.

How has this led to the demise of America? Seems to me, secularism is doing just that. Lying, cheating, stealing, is all excused because the end justifies the means. It's all about good intentions, by all means necessary. You can't blame that stuff on evangelicals.

Republican president, but the nose dive occurred in his last 2 years of office, with a dimwit house and senate.

I think when people get to a point in their lives where the future is uncertain, they'll start believing in whatever is convenient for them... for many its God... that there is something out there that will watch over them...

Translates into:
- Same as with Muslims, they fail to realize those are just books written by humans and thus without any meaning to anyone with a different religion, let alone without any religion.
- Everyone has different ways of dealing with their fantasy and/or mental issues.
- Pushy, intrusive zealots trying to increase their market share.

Don't leave behind this part of the definition.

The current religion is global warming and the green movement - all based on a lie. You might say, the ends justify the means. One could say the same thing about Christianity, although they don't use the iron fist of government to force submission. Cap and tax, carbon credits (confession) does. There is none so hypocritical as Pope Gore.

The authoritarianistic individualism inherent in these people have directly led to the destruction of the middle class, jobs, and the manufacturing industry in this country. By focusing on themselves economically and attempting to force others to conform socially to their beliefs, they have forgotten the all-important mantra of ensuring that the community as a whole is doing well. Without the community doing well, it slowly erodes at their own position, and they don't realize it until it is too late.

This is the thing that is most puzzling. How do they expect to continue doing well if everyone below them is economically ignored? But it is okay, because they always manage to somehow think their position is okay by twisting the Bible's words (even though there is ample evidence in the Bible that their position is directly contrary to most of Jesus' teachings).

It's truly sad. We can only hope that someday soon, this destructive movement comes to a much-needed end.
It seems to me that there is a decline in Christianity.... Perhaps THAT is the correlation you're looking for.

Responding to a simple definition with such hatred only makes YOU look like a jerk.

Back to the topic at hand....

Other than proselytizing, I cannot tell an Evangelical or Christian from any other. The behavior is the same for the most part. In fact, I work with some proselytizing Christians and found their work ethic less than people of other faith or nonbelievers.
