Actually, these numbers are not dramatically different from other recent polls:

RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - President Obama vs. Republican Candidate

The fact that Obama cannot garner a huge advantage or a simple majority against "any Republican" is a major, major problem for him. And then you have the individual matchups:

Romney (President Obama holds a minimal leave and even statistically ties Romney in the recent polls, including one by a Democrat-based firm): RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - General Election: Romney vs. Obama

Pawlenty (who in part still hurts from name recognition and, well, is just boring): RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - General Election: Pawlenty vs. Obama

Bachmann (who just officially entered but is already polarizing and hence suffers): RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - General Election: Bachmann vs. Obama

Palin (well we all know she is the most polarizing political figure on the right): RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - General Election: Palin vs. Obama

Overall, it's very very early, but the generic Republican polls are troublesome for re-election bids for the President. Hence, as much as some conservatives will not admit it, the choice of the nominee will make a HUGE difference and electability MUST be a factor, not litmus tests.

Looks like the majority of Americans are finally getting fed up with Obama... If blacks don't show up in huge numbers at the polls in 2012, who overwhelmingly voted at near 100% for Obama in 2008, it looks like this country will get a much needed change in the White House.
Fine put them in charge. The good part I want suffer alone. GOP policies to destroy the middle class and let the poor die in the streets waiting for basic medical care will affect GOP voters as well.

Forty-four percent of registered voters say they are more likely to vote for "the Republican Party's candidate" and 39% for Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election, according to Gallup's June update.

538 has a list of the top pollsters for bias, ill find it and post it later.

Gallup has him losing to a chimp with an "R" after its name too.

Been that way for weeks.

In the latest one he's losing by 5% to no one in particular.

In other presidential election cycles when an incumbent sought re-election, there were obvious front-runners for the other party's nomination, so Gallup typically pitted the incumbent against that opponent in trial heat questions. These results from June in the year prior to the presidential election were also not highly predictive of the outcomes. Ronald Reagan trailed Walter Mondale in 1983 and Bill Clinton faced a five-point deficit to Bob Dole in 1995, but each incumbent handily won the election the following year. In 1979, Reagan held a slim advantage over Jimmy Carter, with Reagan denying Carter a second term in the 1980 election.

At the time those polls were conducted, Reagan (45%) and Clinton (47%) had approval ratings similar to Obama's current 46%. Carter's was significantly lower, at 29%, because of the summer 1979 energy crisis.
Hmmm... about that...

Very true, rasmussen is the fox news of polls and the most inaccurate and heavily right leaning pollster out there.
