The top 10% of earners now pay 71% of all federal income taxes collected. Do you think they should pay 85% of all income tax? 90%? 100%? How much do you want, anyway?

What torques me off is the reality that I was that college student paying $1,000 in taxes on $11,000--made something of myself--and now you want me to pay an even more disproportionately high share of taxes collected while HALF the people pay no income tax.

Sheesh!
Obama wants to continue the Bush tax cuts for those making less than 250k, and let the tax cuts revert to their previous level for those making above that. Of course, since the rich make most of the income, they pay most of the tax, and the rich CEOs have largely been responsible for outsourcing millions of good paying jobs to India and China.

There you go again. "Rich CEO's," maybe a few dozen people, give you a justification for raising taxes on TWO MILLION people??? For the 37th time, I'm not that CEO!

Did you know you are talking about $3.2 TRILLION worth of tax cuts on those making under $250k, over ten years?

In the olden days just about everybody helped row the boat. Now half of us don't put in a nickel. And you want to make it worse.

"Meanwhile, Republicans have been demanding that the Bush tax cuts, due to expire, be fully and permanently extended.

Obama, who was overwhelmingly elected on a platform to extend only the tax cuts for income below $250,000, maintains that the estimated $670 billion difference between his plan and the Republicans' is unaffordable given our long-term budget deficit.

He also notes that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has found lower marginal tax rates to be the least effective economic stimulus proposal of 11 ideas it considered."

Wow, you mean less effective than paying $270,000 per job as with Obama's stimulus? I find that hard to believe!

Of course CEOs are a subset of the wealthy, but nonetheless, one that has had the most damaging effect on America's economy. The wealthy have benfited from being in the position to scoop up bankrupt businesses and foreclosed properties for cash for pennies on the dollar. Let the Bush tax cuts just expire for those who are in the best shape financially in this country, namely the wealthy. Cuts in the budget also need to be made, and can come mainly from the bloated military and senseless 'war on terror' and 'war on drugs'.

Seems likeyou selectively ignored the comment...much more money is available from teh Tax custs from thsoe who make less than 250K....

Huum, wanting high earners to pay for others, wanting to keep more of the middle class tax break and not paying for services recieved...sounds like a leach........truth hurts.

The only 'truth' that hurts is that the Repubs are seriously making sure that their greedy rich 'base' gets to add a few thousand a year to add to their banked millions and billions, and meanwhile continue to rape the American middle class.

Someone explain to me, how does government taxing the rich to equalize wealth benefit us? That's not going to raise our standard of living. That's yet another feel-good measure that won't do anything except the government to squander it.

The only cuts that they seem to be capable of thinking of are to Medicare and SS. What about the bloated defense budget? Since we lost so much income tax revenue thanks to corporate outsourcing, we shoud increase corporate tax cuts, with the caveat that keeping or returning jobs here may mitigate that action. We should let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy expire, because there is no good reason to extend them.
