Wait, so it was with bad intentions but she didn't know about it? Or it was with bad intentions, she did know about it, and then she changed her mind?

“After careful deliberation and wise insight and input from valued colleagues we deeply respect, we agree that the statement referencing children born into slavery can be misconstrued, and such misconstruction can detract from the core message of the Marriage Vow: that ALL of us must work to strengthen and support families and marriages between one woman and one man," the group's officials said in a statement. "We sincerely apologize for any negative feelings this has caused, and have removed the language from the vow.”
Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann both committed to the pledge, and Bachmann was the first candidate to return the signed document, according to Family Leader officials.
A Bachmann spokeswoman said earlier Saturday that reports the congresswoman had signed a vow that contained the slavery language was wrong, noting it was not in the "vow" portion.

I don't know what was or wasn't in her mind when she signed this pledge. She never made the statement (I never said she did, neither did the OP) she just signed off on it or not according to her. All involved are now backtracking. You may not see what was offensive about it but clearly they did.

Yeah, they later realized it how it would be interpreted, by you for example. If they said it with bad intentions on purpose, why the hell would they change it later???

I've stated numerous times that it was a bad analogy actually. They should take it back. I just don't think they had bad intentions.

Its not a fact.

Most slave children were sold or their parents were sold. Not to mention their parents would be working 12 hours out of every day, not exactly raising your children.

The statement was racist and basically implies that we (African-Americans) are savages who were better off under the control of Whites. Spin it however you want, but it was not productive, not true and it's offensive.

Anyone who truly cared wouldn't make such a statement. It is one thing to say that people need to do better as parents, as providers, in school, etc but another to make a totally ludicrous statement about a practice which involved legal bondage, physical abuse, rape and oppression. If you want to start a productive dialogue about the state of African-Americans, this is not the way to go about it.
EXCELLENT post and true!!!

The statement was racist in it's unbelievable ignorance of the true state of blacks in slavery...they tried to whitewash it! It was an enormous lie....I thought good christians didn't lie!

The whole pledge was rambling idiocy..supported by racist, sexist idiots...

Bachmann knew exactly what she was doing, her history of stupidity precedes her.

Today is my final day worrying about Bachmann, the pornography thread I saw earlier was the last straw.

That's your interpretation of it, which in my opinion is a pretty twisted one. I don't think a single person on this thread has had that interpretation but you.

It's hyperbole, as I said before.
""I don't think a single person on this thread has had that interpretation but you."""

Do NOT speak for others.

I agree with Factsplease which makes you a li....er..mistaken...

The statement was totally racist, ignorant, inflammatory, toally lacking in facts, a slimey creepy cowardly way to slam Obama and blacks..

It was racist in trying to paint a pretty picture of slavery...saying , "gee, slavery had some good points!"

Do you have links for that fact? Believe it or not there were actually laws that dictated how old a child could be before being sold away from their family. Granted laws regarding slaves were routinely ignored.
