What do you base your 'logic' on?

My understanding is the dems did negotiate; the reps refuse to. I feel that they refuse to come to terms in order to bring Obama down. They are willing to sacrifice their own voter bases to accomplish that.

The thing that all those jerks forget is that they are playing with REAL PEOPLE'S lives, not a colored slice of a pie chart with a percent sign on it.
Because his base will vote for him no matter what he does. There is no amount of crap from him they are not willing to eat.

And if he's seen as punching these lefty hippies and minorities, then he might drawn in some right leaning independents.

When did you realize that Obama was more a centrist and not an extreme lefty?

So you agree that the republicans aren't exactly fond of minorities, eh? Right-leaners want to see some real violence against them, eh?

LOL, 'lefty hippies and minorities'..yeah, the over 65 retired crowd are all lefty hippies and minorities!!!

Obama should just tell it like it is, and it's just like my previous post.
I noticed there was no dispute over the contents of my 'speech'.

Oh, yeah. I don't eat crap, but my dogs sometimes do! ick
Childish.

I've always known that. I encouraged people here in this forum not vote for him during the primaries.

But I've seen where you've fallen for their propaganda.

Forcefully arguing against benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and gutting non discretionary spending programs except for defense spending, is something an "extreme lefty" would do....especially when the lefty withholds his vote for those reasons.

That's an extreme lefty.

Then you should worry about his base as much as a typical republican does. I was, clearly, wrong in assuming that your issue with Obama was of disappointment. Turns out, it is an issue of you fully being aware of his approach being opposite of yours before he took the office.

As a conservative, I give Obama credit. There aren't too many ways to cut this deficit. And the fact remains, you can raise taxes on the rich, cut out all wars, etc. There still would be a deficit. The ONLY way to get this monkey off our back, is to cut back on social security AND medicare; that couples with tax increases.

So, for the second time, I find myself agreeing with Obama.

I'm not claiming the the description of his base as "hippies and minorities" is correct. I'm certainly, not using the word "punching" in the literal sense.

I'm trying to give the the mindset of conservatives and what appeals to them.

A Democratic President seen turning his back on his base, appeals to the more moderates among them. Obama at least, thinks it's going to get him votes.

No you are wrong about that. And should go to the 1st post in this thread where there is a link to set you straight.

The budget could be balanced by modest raises in taxes on the wealthy and modest cuts in defense. You don't need to touch social security or medicare.

That being said, I'm still surprised how bad he is on progressive issues.

We need major cuts to defense.
