Ok, so whatever it wants to be called: The taxpayers purchased a lot of Lobsters for a lot of welfare recipients at the ShopRite in South Philadelphia +10 years ago.

And people see nothing wrong with this

Reminds me of another possibility, which I suspect is common:

Since poor people do not live in a vacuum or a bubble, it is likely that many of these people are getting freebies from parents, grandparents, boyfriends, the fathers of their children, etc.

For example, that cell phone and cell phone plan might have come from a controlling boyfriend (so he can always keep tabs on her), or the cable TV might be paid for by a sugar daddy, or Junior's xbox may have been bought by Junior's noncustodial dad, or - in one case I am personally familiar with - grandma might have sold you her low-end home in a declining neighborhood for nothing down with a monthly payment less than the rent you were paying.

It's all part of the plan. The more we are dependent upon them to survive the better it works out for them.

But then you'd be griping about morbid obesity.

In tight economic times, I find I eat more cheap carbs like rice and pasta.

All are good for you, along with fresh in season veggies and smaller amounts of meat.

Americans are going to have to adapt to their new way of living soon enough, might as well start now.

Yeah, I see lots wrong with it. Whatever happened to government cheese and stuff like that? Better than giving people food stamps to buy lobster, and it helps our farmers too.

People using welfare cash to buy lobster are scamming more than just the taxpayers.

Why shouldn't the 'poor' get to eat lobster if they want to??

Yeah, I've been on a low-meat diet for a few years now. I think I've bought two pounds of hamburger in the past year. But sometimes I don't get enough fresh produce, sometimes I overreact to high prices.

Americans - esp poor Americans - have go to learn how to cook. (Dammit, stop watching American Idol and start watching Food Network.)
