Why are Republicans opposing any new taxes when polls show that Americans want cuts and new tax revenue to solve the deficit shortfall?

- "Tax cut" is an easier sell. People as a collective doesn't think far enough.
- Tax cut bodes well with the real desire... to destroy social safety nets.

Why did the Democrats and President Obama spend a year passing an healthcare bill when polls showed Americans didn't want it and agreed that jobs needed to be #1 priority?

This game is going to get old - fast.

And jobs were getting created at a reasonable pace, until the republicans got hold of the house (while winning election on the ground you speak of), and since they starting "working on jobs", the growth has stalled. And "stalled" may be a stretch in July with the continued drama on debt ceiling.

The polls show that Americans like the Cut Cap and Balance approach.

That bill had about 200 Republican amendments.

Well in the past few days we're getting hit here locally with increased taxes as counties, schools and cities pass their budgets. Increased school taxes, property taxes, garbage fees, electric, you name it.
A couple of hundred here, 40-50 there, 10-20 the next place.

And this is just local crap.

The people who are screaming for new taxes aren't screaming for new taxes for themselves, they're screaming for new taxes for someone else. Besides the best way to grow revenue is to CUT taxes. Tax increases will only lead to decreased revenue, it's a proven fact.
