According to a Washington Post article by Glenn Kessler, dated December 8, 2014*,
Debt increase* End-of-term GDP* Percentage
Reagan $1,873 $8,850 21%
GHW Bush 1,484 $9,410 16%
Clinton 1,268 $12,680 12%
GW Bush 4,899 $14,580 34%
Obama 7,198 $16,160 44%
(*in billions)
*Sorry the "link" would not take, but you can look it up. The article is titled, "Does Obama Have the Worst Record of Any President on the National Debt?"
Now, the article is VERY balanced, as it actually takes the position of "NO, he doesn't (have the worst record)" IF you look at all the contributing factors and compare it to, say, FDR's term of office. (But, then, look at the fact that FDR was in office during the Great Depression and World War II!) And, even leaving that aside, the article also stated that the debt grew faster under Reagan than it has under Obama!
However, for the record, the main reason I think that Obama IS out to destroy this country is because of his policies on illegal immigration and his coddling of all the people on welfare.
(And, btw, I voted for Obama in 2008, which was my mistake!)
No need for mw to look the article up. I believe you, when you say its out there. lol...
But by reading your post, it seems to we're comparing apples with the apples.
Debt has increased under. Deficits, however, have not. So how can he have the worst record on Debt? Easy. When the person before runs it up so high, that the only way to bring it down is to run surpluses. Obama has done less spending but because the amount and rate of spending was so high when he took over, it still looks horrible. Traditionally, we rated POTUS's fiscal record on what they've done. Like so much during this presidency, the bar
Bush had relatively low budget deficits. But his off the book spending trickery via budget supplementals, blew up the debt. One of Obamas first actions was moving those off the book items, back on the books. Now Obama's "all-in" budget deficts are lower than Bush's.
Obama will always rate poorly in the category this article is comparing, because of his starting point. Examine the numbers for yourself and see what it would have taken for Obama to score the same as Bush.
Government went bankrupt in 1933.
It ceased to redeem its notes with lawful money.
It declared a State of Emergency.
It confiscated all lawful money from circulation.
. . .
The Republicans don't know what they want, Boehner does not have all their support and thus no easy task when negotiating with Democrats. So why exactly is this mess [only] Obama's fault?
It really is a shared Cluster, and the people that are elected are elected on their image and not on their capabilities.
In 2012 vs. 2008, Obama lost support among both Republicans (6% vs. 9%) and among Independents (45% vs. 52%) but gained with Democrats (92% vs. 89%). He lost support with both Whites (39% vs. 43%) and Blacks (93% vs. 95%), but gained with Hispanics (71% vs. 67%) and Asians (73% vs. 62%). He lost support from heterosexuals (49% vs. 53%) but gained support with the other-than-heterosexuals (76% vs. 70%). His support from people with annual household incomes of more has also decreased from about 50% in 2008 to about 45% in 2012.*
So, i think it is obvious that there are many people like myself (Independent, Heterosexual, White, and Fairly Affluent) who were willing to give Obama a chance and vote for him in 2008, but who have been sadly let down by him since!
*The info with the research links can be found by looking at the Wikipedia articles on the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, with the links provided, but the income breakdowns were different between the two presidential elections, hence the "about".
