Back when you were in college, how much did it cost? My kid works 20 hours a week, she still needs Pell grants, student loans and a check from Mom and Dad (who don't do badly income wise). She is attending a very good school, not as good as the one her mother and father attended because that was financially out of the question. So I really don't hold much stock to, "when we were young" stories.

No kidding. What I would not give to have the rates my dad had when he went to college. He worked at KFC and was able to pay his tuition and have fun while working there (of course he lived with Mom and Dad) and his parents paid for his books.

Now, I work, I take out grants, and I still need loans.

That's how I got my degree, too.

So true - gasp! I had to actually manage my time between working and studying and skip the party scene. You know, act like an adult

I can't recall if I received the Pell Grants. I know I applied for them at any rate my tuition was paid for by a job waiting tables, the dotcom bubble, loans, and credit cards. Not exactly the best thing to do but it worked. I had paid off my undergrad loans but then took on more debt for grad school.

I guess it would be nice to live in a place like France where my higher educational pursuits would be paid by the state but I'm not French. What are you going to do?

Hint: It takes longer than 4 years to graduate. Why? Work most of the time, and take only 2 or 3 classes per term.

Unfortunately for you, as it is, PUBLIC student loans will be relatively unaffected... Pell Grants may be reduced but then, they only give a pittance compared to tuition... so if you could afford your tuition, you are most likely not going to be affected... the only major areas in student loans affected would be PRIVATE student loans and if you are using private student loans, your interest rate would likely increase by MAYBE 1 percent... yeah "owwww...not"..... so the question is, will Democrats care? The Republicans have 2 plans and need Democrats to vote for it, that is unless the Democrats don't care.... as they ALREADY shown by saying its "DOA" BS...
