Why didn't Obama embrace the Bowles-Simpson recomendations? Had he done so I heard all of this could have been avoided.

Is there a need for disrespect? It was bipartisan plan which was supported by Dems and killed by GOP.

This is what I said the plan was, so I am not sure what you are accusing me of:

I lose? Well, I guess you could say so because I wanted far more cuts than this. I was not referring to Obama's $4T offer but the debt panel $4T plan which was killed by GOP. That was a huge missed opportunity expecially when it came with steep corporate tax cuts

I think the only Dem goal was to raise the limit. I don't see how Republicans can be happy with this bill since it does not result in serious cuts.

Are you suggesting Simpson Bowles was presented as legislation?

Oh, here is how. The Republicans got the Dems to cut spending and to not raise taxes. This is just the start. Of curse the cuts weren't all we wanted but, we are the big people in the room, we compromise!

Are there any Defense cuts? Are there still the Bush era tax breaks that added 1.6 trillion to the deficit during the Bush years? Are billionaires still going to avoid paying their fair share of taxes? Are oil companies still getting their tax loopholes and subsidies despite making more moolah than any other corporation in history?

All of those things remain unchanged, the Republicans have worked overtime to balance the budget on the backs of the working poor.

Any concession to these people is a loss for those of us making less than 100K a year.

The waste and tax loopholes are still there. Corporatists are quite happy with the work of their Tea Party members in Congress
