Interesting read.

Despite having run on the promise of “Read my lips: No new taxes,” when the deficit started spiraling to dangerous levels under his presidency, Bush agreed to a compromise with Democrats to raise several taxes, along with spending cuts, as part of a 1990 budget deal that helped to pave the way for the prosperity of that decade. It definitely hurt his re-election, but he did it anyway.

George H.W. Bush also believed in science.

Nobody should be promising anything. Flexibility and fluidity is a must to deal with these things. I don't want a tax rate increase - but I would negotiate an increase for repeal of ObamaCare in a minute.

Default Bush was fortunate

He didn't have the most ignorant tea bagger contingent to hamper all efforts, and he certainly wasn't cursed with this historically pathetic crop of GOP representatives to perpetuate failure.

Exactly what the other side is saying about you and your side. Funny how that works.

Even though I think most of those on the this board consider me a liberal, heck, I consider myself a liberal, I was ok with George H. W.! When he beat Dukakis, it didn't bother me. But then, I was more conservative back then...

Why are tag baggers bad for not giving the President and Congress a free pass to keep spending? The ignorant people are those who want to keep the debt and spending going, without wanting to pay for it.

Yep, Bush I was competent. He defeated Iraq, and then he left. And he raised taxes when he had to. Never had much trouble with him. He seemed less ideological than Reagan, but look what that got him...

His son.....best argument I have ever seen against political dynasties.

It's "Tea Party," not "Tea Baggers."

Now lets look at current day; you libs think that the way to get an employer to hire more people or expand his business is if his taxes are raised dramatically, and he has less wealth to hire and expand his business.

The folks living from paycheck to paycheck, trying to pay their bills... well... if 0bama took away their mortgage deductions and lowered their standard deductions, they would have even less money to pay the bills. And yet, the tax and spend libs think they will actually have more available cash.

Maybe I didn't have as much as stake back then, but I tolerated his father, even though some of the things I learned about him later on, when he left office, weren't cool at all.
It's like comparing a .220 hitter, his father, vs a .150 hitter, his son.
