Once these laws have become an accepted part of our governmental structure, they become easy to expand and abuse.

The point so many of us--from all parts of the political spectrum--are trying to make, is that our current political system is inherently corrupt. It is made up of people who vote based upon personal political or financial interests. These people don't represent the interests of average Americans. This is true of most Democrats and of most Republicans.
Part of the reason they don't repeal the legislation is because they don't hear from enough of their constituents to DO anything about it. IMPORTANT: So we know we need to respond quickly just put "Action Alert- National Budget Bill" or whatever the bill is pertaining to so we all know and can respond.

What WOULD make a difference or at least HAS made a difference in the corporate world is to JAM THE PHONE LINES with tons of callers.. all at the same time demanding "XYZ" be done.

I once volunteered for a Food Safety group then called "Food & Water" that was successful in preventing/stopping chicken meat from being irradiated. They had all their members and volunteers participate in a telephone tree and jammed the lines of Tyson foods throughout the day until they changed their policy and said they would not irradiate and then Perdue followed them.

These kinds of organized efforts do produce results. It is too bad all of our energy spent complaining to each other in this forum could not be used to remind us to
contact our representatives regarding certain issues. Those that don't know enough about the subject could use talking points or a sample letter.

Besides, it wouldn't even take all THAT much work. You can usually find an "Action Alert" somewhere that is all ready to go with an email you can customize if you want. You don't even have to know who your elected officials are. Just provide your name and address and they automatically send it to the right representatives.

Why not start now? When you know about an important bill that needs Congress support or opposition, look for Action Alerts on whatever the bill number is. Explain in a new thread what the bill is about and post the link to the "action alert" with the letter usually composed by a non-profit group. Put in your subject heading: "Action Alert- Nat'l budget" or whatever the bill is about or the bill name and number.

Didn't work with TARP and it didn't work with Cap&Trade in the House.
Wake up and realize the truth.

Well they have to do something. WWIV will break out if Americans have to lose one iota of their standard of living.

You can already see people, when asked about the national debt, say "I don't owe that. Screw that, they'll have to come get me."

Not having one single clue about how anything around them works.

To bypass our authority.

The Constituion was created to protect us from oppressive government.
This government, by side-stepping Constitutional limitations granting itself unauthorized powers is by definition exactly what we are supposed to be protected from.

I see people who agree with Obama endorsing this tactic.
All I have to say to you is turn it around, what if it was Boehner who was President using the same tactic to circumvent congressional authority led by Obama as speaker of the house.

The hammer we give government does not belong to one party or the other, it belongs to the government which is only as good as the people of which it consists.

That phrase alone ought to scare us.

That is Congress's job.

This was done to remove the Nov.2nd, 2010 mandate, the people sent to Capital Hill.

Wait until 2012 and the people speak again.

Our authority has not been bypassed. The committee is made up of elected representatives who put forth a bill that will be voted on by the house... Which consists of elected representatives.

As an aside, don't you just love the names of these new commitees that the govt keeps giving? It is no longer enough to have a bipartisan or blue ribbon committee. Now we get a super commitee.

What's next the really extra special commitee? The commitee par excellance?

How about the superdee dupitee commitee in honor of Barney the dinosaur?

What a bunch of tools we have leading this country

It's actually called the Joint Select Committee. Super Committee is what the media is calling it.

Thanks for the info.

Isn't "select" a bit of a misnomer as if the esteemed people on this commitee chicken out and refuse to "select" specific cuts it becomes an across the board cut?

How about the " I'm going to cover my political a$$ but not choosing any specific cuts and blame the across the board cuts on a poorly written law" commitee?

Our gutless wonders at work
