A number pulled out of thin air, with seemingly no awareness of what that would do, or how it would completely gut the economy with that many people unemployed.
I say pulled out of "thin air" to keep it polite.
I didn't say overnight.
Obviously, it would take time. And some of the functions of the federal government should be picked up by the states. So employees who have valuable skills would be hired by states needing those skills.
But over time a huge number of federal functions should just go away or be drastically reduced.
Blacks represent barely 11% of the American Population (per 2010 Census).
Blacks represent less than 5% of the "Professional White-collar" workforce (per 2011 Dept. of Labor data).
Blacks represent 8.7% of the voting Electorate (e.g. Americans eligible to vote).
Yes, that's right, Blacks aren't referred to as a MINORITY for nothing. Compared to Whites, Blacks are just a sliver of the American population. To view their representation graphically: if the american population were a standard Pizza pie,
Blacks would be one-half of one slice of Pizza! :-)
I know, hard to believe. You know why that is hard to believe? Because Blacks are massively OVER-REPRESENTED in EVERYTHING!! Over-represented in television, over-represented in advertising, and my personal favorite......MASSIVELY OVER-REPRESENTED IN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYMENT. For example, Blacks make-up 77% of all Dept. of Veterans Affairs employees! And this is typical across all federal agencies.
Race-based hiring is illegal. Race-based hiring is immoral. Race-based hiring was outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
To quote Rush Limbaugh: "To be Black in America in the 21st Century is to have it made!"
The modern day Civil Rights Movement consists of two main pillars:
1. Head-counting: doing everything and anything it takes to increase the numbers of Blacks in EVERYTHING (except prison population). They achieve this through race-conscious government outreach programs and a milliion different Affirmative Action race-based preference programs.
2. Image enhancement: specifically, the primary objective is to change the way that Whites "view" and "think" about
Blacks. They acheive this by twisting the arms of television producers to ALWAYS cast Blacks in "positive" roles. Ever notice how Whites are ALWAYS the buffoons in television commercials and T.V. shows? Pay attention. And Blacks are ALWAYS cast in leadership roles (police captains, doctors, etc.). I'm telling you, just pay attention the next time you watch a commercial, watch a television show, or read an advertisement in a magazine.
Those are the two pillars to the modern day Civil rights Movement. Remember when "civil rights" used to mean "treating others fairly", preventing "hiring discrimination", etc. Who would have ever thouight that the civil rights movement would evolve to THIS!!!! It is shameful.
A drastic reduction in the size and scope of our federal government would be like sprinkling miracle-gro on the economy.

They are trying that in the U.K. now here are the results.
Not a pretty picture is it? No exactly an economy that has miracle-gro spread on it.
This is EXACTLY what happens when you use contractionary economic polices when the consumer, and investment sectors are weak.
The same thing will happen here in the United States if the Republicans get the type of spending cuts, they are pushing for.
Please note, I'm not saying that on the long term we don't need to address federal deficit issues, but NOW is not the time to do it.
