800,000. More than all of our other wars combined.

That was a totally useless war. That war makes Lincoln the worst US president by a wide margin.

You, of course, are one of those "intellectually emancipated"?

So, saving the Union was "useless". My great-great grandfather and all other Union veterans thank you for your support.

Do you have an actual argument to offer anyone, or just sarcasm? Maybe those head slaps aren't helping your concentration?

Worse than useless, it was decidely negative. America couldn't have gone hog-wild and raped all the countries it did, especially after 1898, if it had been split in two.

Maybe Mexico would've taken back the Southwest and Texas and saved us a lot of trouble.

I can concentrate just fine, and also determine that some posters are addle-brained, clueless, and driven by a warped, historically absurd agenda.: smack::s mack:

Oh, I'll bet that your favorite movie is "The Truman Show".

Please, just move to Venezuela, Iran, or North Korea; their respective Ministries of Propoganda have just the position for you.

Look I'm no advocate for war by any means, nor is our history always as happy and sugar coated as what we learned in school, but WWII and dropping those 2 bombs were a necessary evil. Hitler wasTHAT close to having the bomb, and if it weren't for scientists defecting to avoid persecution, then he WOULD have had it first, and more than likely it would have been game over! He was the first to experiment with missiles in warfare (remember the V2?) And unlike the "boogeymen" of today like Iran or Iraq, he WOULD have had the capability to use it! Japan would have as well! While the US may have provoked Japan, the bottom line is they ATTACKED us! Furthermore, I'm a firm believer that if you're going to fight a war, than either fight the damn war and accept nothing less than an UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER, or don't fight the damn war at all!

As for Japan, and Germany in their declarations of war against the US.... well.... don't start something that you're not prepared to finish! Wasn't it Admiral Yamamoto that said after the attack on Pearl Harbor "I fear all that we have done is awaken a sleeping giant!"

With all of that said, I truly hope that we never again have to resort to using such a weapon of mass destruction!
