I agree.
I am a big proponent of civil rights and critical of the needless escalation to violence by police, but from the information provided concerning this situation, there is simply not enough detail to have an opinion one way or the other.
That said though, I absolutely believe police use tazers way too much and tazers are much more dangerous than their reputation.

This.
Also, most deaths after taser use are from excited delirium. Google it if you don't know what it means.
Personally, when I was on the job, my dept was just getting tasers. I never used one. I did get tased, and it was unpleasant. Not nearly as bad as getting pepper sprayed, though. I also agree about the taser making for lazy cops.
Those of you who ***** and moan about tasers 'killing people' need to think about what types of actions will be taken in lieu of using a taser. Personally, I'm a big guy. I'm 6'7" and 290lbs of muscle. I would usually always opt for going hands on with people, because I can throw most normal sized people around like rag dolls. I never had a problem gaining compliance from resisting individuals through empty hand controls (holds, knee, elbow, and fist strikes, and pain compliance). However, this also causes injuries. Rarely serious, of course. Getting punched or having your wrist twisted a bit will cause some soreness for a few days, but you'll live. For most people, getting tased is some pain compliance for 15 seconds, and then it's over.
You decide. If tasers are taken away, it's back to the tactics us old timers used but now have mostly gone away.

How about respect for citizens and calm negotiating skills. I believe mismanagement by "tough" law enforcement officials often needlessly escalate mundane situations to "life threatening". I truly believe training needs to be re-visited.
As a "big" guy I hope you use force judiciously, not maliciously.
PS: I'm not sure I buy the excited delerium argument, would have to do more research though . . .

Yeah, calm negotiating skills always work with people under the influence.
