It is exactly because of that attitude that the U.S. is not exceptional. So many people can't accept the fact that others don't see it as better than other countries. It has a lot of positives, but it also has negatives - the same as every other country.

Xenophobia is so last century.

Why the hell would any Canadian in their right mind want to take on the result of decades of American government mismanagement?

The reality is that Canada is sitting on loads of natural resources that are in high demand in emerging market nations.

Canada will never be part of the USA. By and large Canadians like American people but by and large Canadians really dislike American politics and the American system of government.

Absolutely and after living here for 5 years I can say the same. Quite like most American's I know, quite dislike the political system. To an outsider it seems like whoever donates the most to a Congressman, determines what the Congressman stands for... the U.S. government gives the outward appearance of being sold to the highest bidder.

Not saying that is true, just the perception of it.

Disturbing results so far.

American exceptionalism doesn't refer to what we offer that other countries do not. American Exceptionalism is the by product of freedom. It's no coincidence that our exceptionality has eroded along side of our freedoms.

America was the beacon of hope for the rest of the world. The last and only chance freedom has to survive, lies with America. It's no coincidence the most powerful, charitable, innovative, wealthy people in the world live in America.

If you were born in America you are extremely lucky no matter who tries to tell you different. That is exceptionalism. It's not a myth by any stretch of the imaginition. It is fact.

If you don't buy it, you are FREE to leave. But don't ever forget that the last 200 years of freedom are a tiny blip in history, and not many civilizations in the world have experienced the blessings that those of us that are lucky enough to be here experience every day.

Well, you might not be saying that is true but it surely is.

It is a complete illusion. The USA is just one of 180+ countries on Earth. I love it because it's home, but it's just another nation. Nothing "exceptional" about it.

In some ways, yes...

But then again, this is certainly a feeling that is not limited to just Americans...

The Chinese, Russians, French and lots of other peoples both historically and currently have tended to think their nations are exceptional, "unique" from all others...

That has to be the first time I've heard anyone describe a declaration of war as an "aw shucks" policy.

Exceptional in what way? We're the richest, most powerful, most innovative country to ever exist... But for the average person, we're certainly not the best place to live... One of the best, but I don't think we'd crack the top 10 in that regard...
