It's fine to trash talk reality TV but what about the rest of it? We've had 60 years plus of sitcoms and dramas and now its just a complete rehash of old used scripts, jokes and situations. Not to mention very poor actors who don't even belong on TV. Reality TV gave us a break from the same old same old dull predicatable stale TV we've grown accustomed to. Do we need a half dozen law shows or medical dramas or forensic shows? I can get better laughs watching Youtube watching real people do stupid things.

Not that I watch them, but Medical and Forensic shows are supposed to make people laugh?
Not all reality shows are trash. If you think about it, Antiques Road Show is a form of reality show. I include Jersey Shore, Housewives of ****, Big Brother, and Survivor among the trash reality shows. Big Brother and Survivor because they're made to bring out the worst in people. The nastier you are as a human, the better chance you have of winning. I quit watching them after their first season. Proud to say I've never watched ANY MTV reality show nor any of those bad girl reality shows. The channels I most frequently watch include History, History International, DIY, TLC, Discovery, Science, Military, and TruTV.
I agree with him. "Entertainment" has been dumbed down to meet the needs and mental capacity of the public.
Oh, yes. If only we could go back to the 1950s when movies like "Bedtime For Bonzo" (starring Ronald Reagan) were popular. Entertainment was so much more intellectually stimulating back then.
Jerry Lewis doesn’t like reality television; that’s pretty much what we can take away from the interview the 85-year-old actor gave to the press at the Television Critics Association on Friday. Lewis’ opinion that television programming is going downhill isn’t new, but his wrath is now particularly focused on the evils of reality programming. Lewis didn’t pull any punches: Jerry Lewis Rants Against Reality TV
I agree with him. "Entertainment" has been dumbed down to meet the needs and mental capacity of the public. It's just a telltale example of the bigger picture.

Antiques Roadshow is actually not only entertaining and informative and certainly does not qualify as a reality show. You come away from watching it with a bit of knowledge and an appreciation of vintage objects and objects of art... which do not remotley resemble anything like a Kardashians big ugly butt.

So were Elia Kazan, Henry Miller, Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Wells, Arhtur Miller, Rod Serling...just to name a few, figments of the imagination???
I'd love to get rid of cable, but my POS landlord will not allow a choice or any type of antenna as he most likely has a deal with the cable company.
I know, I watch TCM and some news, linktv...Showtime sux as well, what a waste of money...I wish more actors or producers would find create better shows:creative alternatives. Just bcs reality crap is cheap doesnt mean audiences want it.

Orson Welles film noir on TCM tonight much better than watching bs on CNN and network tv trash
