Crackpots have always existed, research shows that the are overwhelmingly politically conservative. The development of the internet has allowed crackpotism to have a public soapbox. As we are seeing in our national political discourse, it has the full capability of destroying the Republic.
And that is the intention. Just as it is the intention of those who come on this board and gloat about how Texas is benefiting from California's woes. Certain people (not all by any means) on the right want to destroy the US and are prepared to do so. Those on the left in the US are mostly clueless about these people.

Brown was spot on, and those who use the term Moonbeam in reference to him, have no idea where the term came from, and are intellectually lazy.
Agreed completely.
However, I hope Brown resists the temptation to run for President again to challenge Obama. There's too much he has to do in California.
Watching Obama's speech right now....he continues to live in the fantasy that bi-partisanship is possible. Its laughable and I am annoyed that after all he's been through with this bunch of oligarchial puppets, its still possible to accomplish anything with the congress he has to work with.

Well, it's like you said; it's only possible because he gives in a lot. Not the best way to get things done but likely the only way. I guess it's the lesser of two evils. Better to do something in a Mickey Mouse way than not at all. The federal government can't function as a unit. States are having to do more and more for themselves but are still tied to the same dysfunctional federal system. In the end, this is what will destroy the country; not liberals, not conservatives but outright political neglect. Once the masses wake up and realize this dead end as a whole, they will realize that they're better off determining their own destiny based on their own interests.
Presidents and governors have less power than "we the people" like to blame them for misusing ... the federal system is three-part, remember, of which Obama is only one ... he doesn't get to just "play hardball" ... any more than does Jerry Brown against the state legislature. What the nation and states are experiencing is the weakness of democracy ... tsk. That is: relying on the electorate and human nature itself to be thoughtful, intelligent, balanced, fair, and humanistic in evaluating how to exist cooperatively on a large scale.
It's science:
Homo-sapien is a social animal ...
social animals do not sacrifice the many for the benefit of the few ...
they work collectively to benefit the troupe, herd, gaggle, pride, pack, etc.
When those units become too big and too diverse, order breaks down.
You'll never fix that rule of nature to fit any illusory political or social dogma.
In the same CNN interview, Brown also had good things to say about his predecessor. That probably didn't go over too well with some on the left who liked to attack Schwarzenegger. "Asked on CNN's State of the Union with Candy Crowley this morning if Schwarzenegger, a Republican, was a failed governor, Brown said, "No, that's not true." "He had his failures, but that kind of blanket condemnation is not appropriate," the Democratic governor said. "He championed renewable energy, he had bold ideas. Stem cell research. When President Bush was killing stem cell research, California was leading the way. Schwarzenegger did that. Now, there's other things that I can point to. But I think we ought to let his reputation rest and age a bit before we get too critical."" Capitol Alert: Jerry Brown credits Schwarzenegger for 'bold ideas'

Brown went after both parties in the Legislature in another interview this week: " 'No taxes' is a central dogma in the new Republican church. You can’t deviate," he said. "They won’t burn you at the stake, but they’ll recall you ... nobody up here has the courage or cojones to do anything about it," he said. He also had choice words for Democrats, who he said increasingly vote in a bloc on nearly everything in the Legislature." Jerry Brown laments 'atrophying' political process [Updated] - latimes.com
Socialism, something every modern industrial nation has, something that gives more than ten (I just stopped counting there) countries, better healthcare, longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality, better public transportation, higher quality of life, higher levels of happiness, if there be socialism, it is a damned good thing.
Typical leftist false arguement; America is bad, socialism is terrific, life in many other countries is wonderful compared to ours, ad nauseum, etc. Bunk. Animals born in captivity love their cages since they have never experienced freedom. So too is it this way in the effete Euro-Socialist nations. Working people paying over half their income in taxes, including paying $7 or $8 a gallon for gasoline for the privilege (?) of being told by their government what to do may be fine for liberals, but for those of us that prefer to assume responsibility for our own lives it is unacceptable.

Dunbar's Number ... look it up
Good key points here except the diverse part. When homogeneity takes over, populations become weaker but you're right on every other point.

I assume then that you never drive on America's socialist roads, call the socialist fire department, or the socialist police, or benefit from the socialist FAA, or enter a harbor, or ever need rescuing and I am sure you will never allow yourself to use a National Forest or National Park or BLM land, all socialist constructs.
And we know of course that you would never use medicare, or social security or allow your food to be tested by the FDA.
One thing that the rational people of the world need to remember is that, to a right winger, it is only socialist if they don't like it.
I used to work for an outfit, my food was free, my clothing was free, I got free transportation anywhere they wanted me to go, my lodging was free, my medical care was free and I got a paycheck. I like that, about as socialist as one can get, and it worked fine for me and everyone else that worked there. And the taxpayers of American picked up the tab.
