And we know of course that you would never use medicare, or social security or allow your food to be tested by the FDA.

One thing that the rational people of the world need to remember is that, to a right winger, it is only socialist if they don't like it.

I used to work for an outfit, my food was free, my clothing was free, I got free transportation anywhere they wanted me to go, my lodging was free, my medical care was free and I got a paycheck. I like that, about as socialist as one can get, and it worked fine for me and everyone else that worked there. And the taxpayers of American picked up the tab.
Providing they actually understand what socialism is. Most throw the word around freely but have little understanding of what they're saying.

Of course, destroy the tax base, lower wages, destroy the safety net and create a third world labor pool so their Colonial Masters can get labor as cheap as North Korea. We are already competing with north korea for Hyundai plants

Were you drafted or did you volunteer? Seem to vaguely recall you mentioning one time that you were in the Navy? If so, then we have something in common. Good sailor or a general bleep up? Or, heaven forbid, were you an officer?

Are you speaking about one of Rupert Murdoch's media outlets and its viewers?

So Blackshoe, you can recognize socialism and you know that it is a good thing. I was a mere blackshoe enlisted man. I had a good time, ran the ship in a large circle one moonless night and the poor OoD never noticed.

Since you picked on the poor Euros I found a stat you might like
USA GDP $14.12 trillion

European Union (those nasty socialists) GDP, $16 trillion.

Working people paying over half their income in taxes, including paying $7 or $8 a gallon for gasoline for the privilege (?) of being told by their government what to do may be fine for liberals, but for those of us that prefer to assume responsibility for our own lives it is unacceptable.

No you don't. You don't want to take responsibility; you want a government handout in the form of a tax cut, you don't want to pay your fair share of taxes. And you think the government control the gas prices. You're an idiot. You're no different from some segment of the welfare group that just want the government to give them special treatment.

I'm constantly amazed at the idiocy of the right - they always say government is broken and can't do anything right. Ok, fine. But then they turn around and blame the government for everything - gas prices, lending, wall street bonuses, jobs, Europe's mess. So according to the right, the government is absolutely incompetent but yet at the same time is super competent as to be able to achieve all the ills that the right conjured up.

If the government indeed can't do anything right, then what the hell do you have to worry? They may try to install socialism but it will just end up looking nothing like socialism anyway.

Too bad we do not have time or space to tell sea stories, but you could never have been the enlisted version of Captain Queeg. You had to be pretty sharp and had to qualify under supervision to be allowed on the helm. Even the slightest course deviation would have drawn a sharp admonition from the OoD, JoD, the Quartermaster of the watch, Boatswains mate of the watch, etc, to "mind your helm".

One must consider the mental abilities of the officer of the deck that mid watch, we called him Captain Zero, and those other guys? Sound asleep in their bunks, well, the quartermaster was likely asleep in his shack, on the bridge were I, the engine telegraph guy and a couple of look outs snoozing behind the wing wind guards. Peacetime, somewhere off the warm coast of Cuba.

It seems neither you nor .highnlite understand it either. Building roads, infrastructure, providing security (police, fire, national defense), and most of the things cited are not marks of socialism. None of those things indicate government ownership or control of means of production. None of those activities directly create a cooperative economy.

Government ownership of General Motors is closer to socialism. French/UK/German ownership of Airbus is another example.

Or of course Cuba and Venezuela.

I don't think Obama is a socialist nor really wants to turn the USA into a socialist economy. I don't think he wants to see the government develop software, computers, chips, TVs, smartphones, or airplanes.
