This particular carrier was only intended to be a preliminary practice vessel, therefore they refurbished an old carrier.

Make no mistake, they are building several others from scratch, these others are larger and more advanced than the one they have just finished. They have also significantly expanded their shipbuilding infrastructures by building some of the world's largest deepwater ports perfect for building giant ships on the scale of LNG carriers, but easily built for Aircraft Carriers as well.

China thanks the shoppers of Wal-Mart, Target and everywhere "cheap" is preferred over quality. Way to build China's military.

I know your right, but China goods have graduated to Sears, JC Penney and even hate to say this Macy's.

As far as housewares, glassware, furnitue, bedding etc. And home decor items. A favorite of everyone, Home Goods, Kirklands, and even the Ally have merchandise from China.

And in gift shops at various national treasures and places of significance such as National Parks, Kennedy Space Center, Graceland, the Alamo. It is so depressing to see stuff like a space shuttle model that is made in China. I've even seen US flags that were made in China.

[I refuse to buy souvenirs made in China and would rather go home empty handed]

China is going to be the new world power, that is a given.

There is little the USA can do really.

Carriers are used to project military power,China has never needed to do so as it stayed out of other nations affairs,at least in regards to military involvement.

As to buying Chinese goods, well reap what you sow.

That is not true. US carriers are used to project military power. The aircraft carriers of other countries are not, and they are not used like US carriers are, and in fact they cannot be used like US carriers are.

Then they'll be operating 18, because the entire complement of this, um, "aircraft carrier" (I use the term loosely) includes only 36 aircraft, which is less than half of the aircraft a US carrier has.

18 of those 36 aircraft are helicopters.

US carriers have 52 combat aircraft (plus helicopters, tankers and ECW/EW aircraft) compared to just 18 here.

I'm not exactly sure why you are in sheer panic mode.

And they're allied with China, and Japan will probably go that way as well.

Well that is true, except for perhaps the French carrier,it has been used I believe in this manner...when it works.
The USA is THE carrier navy, and that is ow it uses it's carriers, similar to how Battleships were used by Great Britain in the past.

Its not even a chinese carrier actually. Its a soviet carrier, after the fall of the soviet empire russia could not afford to us its small fleet of carriers. This carrier thst the chinese was was sold to them by the russians. Either way u.s has twelve carriers and incase of americad forign intrest, by 2014 india is gonna have 4 carriers. It takes years to build and develop a carrier group.
