Well as usual, the tea party types denounce stimulus but are first in line to pick up the check (and credit for creating jobs) back home. Bachman is no exception and her hypocrisy in regards to government handouts, along side her husband, is stunning to say the least.
Thanks to the freedom of information act we find that:

On at least 16 separate occasions, Bachmann petitioned the federal government for direct financial help or aid. A large chunk of those requests were for funds set aside through President Obama's stimulus program, which Bachmann once labeled "fantasy economics." Bachmann made two more of those requests to the Environmental Protection Agency, an institution that she has suggested she would eliminate if she were in the White House.
Of course lets not forget her federally subsidized home loan as well as her physician husband, a Ted Haggard doppelganger, who receives Medicaid payments (for all you Tea Party members, Medicaid is a government program in case you were still unaware.)
As it turns out, while Bachman was calling Obama's stimulus "an orgy of spending" she was also requesting money-and lots of it-back home.
Worse yet, is Bachman's hypocrisy in regards to the EPA. These days she refers to them as "job killing organization of America." However it wasn't long ago that Mrs. Bachman was writing the EPA herself urging funding for her projects back home:
Quote:
Bachmann co-signed a letter to the EPA urging its officials to help fund technical assistance programs and rural water initiatives "in small communities across Minnesota." The authors of the letter, which included nearly the entire Minnesota congressional delegation at the time, noted that FY 2006 funding for the National Rural Water Association had been set at $11 million.
As it turns out, Bachman in her lust for federal funds, even wrote the wrong agency seeking money for the local police department. How embarrassing and what a complete and utter hypocrite.

Steve Benen: How About a Bachmann-Inspired Stimulus?
Rachel Maddow talked to Steve Benen about his recent article at The Washington Monthly where he asked this after noting the Republicans like Michele Bachmann's hypocrisy of privately requesting stimulus funds for their districts while publicly decrying any further attempts to stimulate the economy and claiming it doesn't work.
Add to that fact that the tea partiers trust an IRS tax attorney (former or not, fact remains she was a lawyer working for the IRS) to be their face. Talk about an oxymoron
Look, just because she has support of some people out there, don't make her out to be the Tea Party Pariah. The media drums up as much of this as they can, but when it comes down to it, nobody with a brain should be supporting this woman.
The question is, can a person be opposed to government programs, in which they are the beneficiary of?
If the federal government is handing out a couple trillion dollars in a "stimulus", that will most likely be paid for either by taxes or through inflation of the US dollar(paid for just as much by Minnesotans as anyone else). I don't see how it is unprincipled to not attempt to bring as much of that money(that also came from your constituents) back into your district as possible.
I think it would be stupid for Bachmann to snub her nose at billions of dollars that rightfully belong to the people of her state. And anyone who thinks she is a hypocrite is a complete idiot.
I mean, if I am receiving social security, does that mean I can no longer support privatizing Social Security? Is it possible to work for the IRS, while supporting the abolishment of the income tax?
