True. And I think all modern Germans are shamed by the Nazi specter in their history.

I heard some US military guy a couple years ago (I forget who) who said that the best defense was a strong economy. So, he was for not spreading ourselves too thin and regrouping (dang! who was that...senior moment).

I don't think it obsolete but it certainly should not be the foundation for tha nation's wellbeing.

[both the US and China are learning this right now...]

I think the US bases in Germany are from 1945-2045.
Not as long as they keep bailing out the rest of the EU on their shoulders. They will collapse. Just a matter of time until the entire EU collapses anyway. Folks in Germany are tired of bailing out others kinda like folks in the US are tired of bailing out the banks and seeing our money in the IMF go to EU countries too.
