um last time I checked, germany IS already an economic superpower.. it is the 4th largest economy in the world and in all reality leads the EURO zone which is the largest economic block in the world even larger than the US when factored together
They are the current leaders in the EU. The people of Germany have a history of being leaders. They think they are the best.
Is it only a matter of time until Germany tries to lead the world again?
I think the US bases in Germany are from 1945-2045.
Not a chance of Germany of becoming a superpower. In fact, with Germany's abysmally low birthdate, it would be surprising to me if Germany survives as a nation. Let alone an influencial force in the world.

A good point. Most young German couples do not marry, never mind have children. The Turks, however, are breeding like mosque mice.
Birth rates are not the problem. Birth rates are dropping everywhere. Germany is crowded and it could stand to reduce its population.
The problem is that immigration and globalization will eventually extinguish German genes and culture. Soon, the concept of "German" ideas and products will be an anachronism. The same applies to many other countries. For most promoters of globalization this is a feature, not a bug.
This whole issue of a world superpower is nonsense to me .I have yet to figure out why one country seems to have all the cards military or economically.

No.
Their demographics are such that they are a nation of old people.
They recently ditched Conscription and the Bundeswehr is about as intimidating as a brigade led by Elmer Fudd.
More seriously, these are the people who loathe themselves for helping to defang the Serbs, will not actually fire a weapon in Afghanistan, correctly stayed out of Iraq, and took a pass on bombing Libya.
Not exactly a population itching for world domination.
I think over the next 50 years the whole perception and definition of 'super power' is going to change in such a drastic manner that what we consider NOW as a super power won't even remotely resemble whats to come.
In answering the OP I can only reaffirm what is stated above - Germany is an economic power. Obviously, it's no big secret that prosperity can provide an administration the opportunity to become a 'super power' via military strength and armament... so perhaps the real question is why is Germany not a 'super power' in terms of all out military strength???
Also it's important to note there's a large difference between 'strength' and 'power' as Zaid Shakir has alluded to in a lecture covering the said subject. True power is through presence, is through being influential, etc, and not having to resort to your strength.
Keep this in mind when considering what a 'super power' might actually consist of.
