I think it's impossible to go hungry in this country with all of the duplicitous food programs. There's food stamps, WIC, school meals, etc. Just look at all of the overweight kids in low income neighborhoods. They aren't lacking for food.
"The district - which includes Kensington, parts of North and South Philadelphia, and Chester - is the second-hungriest place for families in the United States, according to the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the leading antihunger nonprofit in the nation."
Who said I was a liberal? I'm an American who doesn't believe that children in this country should ever be hungry. Should the government feed all kids? Not necessarily......but they should be able to assure that no child goes hungry here.
You've still managed to miss the point. You might want to try going back and reading the OP.
"The district - which includes Kensington, parts of North and South Philadelphia, and Chester - is the second-hungriest place for families in the United States, according to the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the leading antihunger nonprofit in the nation."
And with all the government and private charity programs one has to wonder how can this happen.
In reading the article I can't help but think that maybe this was written to grab emotions because of this statement from your link:
"The news comes at a time when the House of Representatives has voted to cut $127 billion from the food-stamp program, as well as $733 million from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), a program to ensure proper nutrition for poor mothers and their children."
"The district - which includes Kensington, parts of North and South Philadelphia, and Chester - is the second-hungriest place for families in the United States, according to the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), the leading antihunger nonprofit in the nation."
And I bet their children have a higher rate of obesity in comparison to the general public at large.
