What do you suggest we do? Send aid? Their corrupt government will take the food and then sell it to warlords and other countries. Send them money and the government will keep it.

Send in the military? Read or watch Black Hawk Down... might does not always make right, and I'd hate for a family to get a phone call telling them their son was killed and dragged through the streets like a ****ing trophy all in the name of fighting some warlords.

The Africa problem is far too complex for a simple solution from one nation.

How many Americans died? Around 19 or 20,right?
How many Somalis? Around 2-3,000,including innocent civilians. I'm not saying it's good the Americans died, that's horrible. But why would you say an American life is somehow worth more than a Somali one? Are Somali's less-human?

Sending aid to the Horn of Africa is the responsibility of the United Nations and The African Union. Somalia really has no government,so you can't expect much to be done there.

What should we do for Somalia? Stay the heck out of their way, and let their people develop a stable, honest government. One that gives their citizens a chance to rise out of abject poverty. The United States government, throwing away our future, in the form of our tax dollars, or worse, the lives of our military men and women, won't do a thing to fix the underlying cause of their problems. We have to try that in corrupt countries every few years. We see the suffering and have this overwhelming urge to help. Our govenment, and many of our people, are slow to learn from past mistakes.

There is no one there that we should sacrifice the life of more service men and women for. We did so already there in the early 90s. We did so in Bosnia in the later 90s. And we're doing so now in Iraq, Afganistan and Libya. We can't afford this, and it isn't our place to democratize the world.

No thanks. Let Africa save Somlia. They don't need the Great White Hope of the western nations to intervene.

The situation in Somalia is just as bad as is was 20 years ago.

An American life is not worth more than a Somalian life, but the rules of engagement are different. You'd be damned sure none of those dudes beating the dead American soldier (who went on to hang him from a bridge) were ever found, hunted down, no names taken....but should a bunch of American soldiers take down a Somalian rebel who was about to cut the arms off of an infant....

The difference is that liberal Americans who want to invade some country and help THEIR country of choice, in the name of "humanity", are going to be the first to rip apart an American soldier for taking out an 8 year old before said 8 year old, sporting an uzi, took him/her out first.

That's how pitiful and disgusting some countries are. There IS a reason they "employ" child warriors/rebels.....in Sierra Leone, Uganda..Somalia.

What do you do with that? As an American (or not 3rd world) soldier who is a mother or a father? Shoot an 8 year old before he/she shoots you first b/c you have an 8 year old you want to get back home to? Good luck living with that. Why do you THINK those disgusting countries USE kids?

Exactly. Let the United Nations actually do something without it's hand being forced and then claiming "foul". Where has the UN been when it comes to Somalia? Eating out at the best restaurants in NYC? What about the AU or the EU? What are they doing?

Until there is an even playing field, those who are held accountable for their actions (US Military) need to stay out of places (countries) where it's a free-for all. Dragging some soldiers through the streets and hanging them from a bridge...what is Somalia? Bunch of nut jobs...who apparently get a pass, they just need some "help".

I guess we all forget that since Somolia is so unstable that terrorist will set up shop there and pretty soon attacks will be launched from there instead of Afghanistan(where it used to be).Better to hit the problem before its too late.
Either way I don't think we should intervene directly at all, maybe we can beg the Saudis to take care of their fellow muslims.

Let's pull our troops back home, and send no $ to Somalia. Let's get things in order on our own soil.
