This is GREAT!
I must say. My dad is a WWII vet. He went to the Golden Coral in Cookeville, TN for the Veterans Day Dinner they host. He was the only WWII vet there at that time he went. He was treated like a king by ALL the veterans. Korea, Viet Nam, all eras. All Veterans are brothers! No matter what times they served, what wars they served in.
He's 87 and gets a bit weak. They helped him get food(2 vets held his arms to steady him). Held him up when he got tired waiting in line. The line was LONG. lol I deeply appreciate ALL vets. Dad had the time of his life and was back with his buddies, if only for a few hours. It didn't matter they were from different wars.

Why a seperate day for Vietnam veterans? We already have a veterans day.
Vietnam was a very divisive war. People have very strong feelings about it even today, and people who weren't even in the war (too young or too old) have strong feelings about it. The war exposed a deep rift in the American public that has never healed: hawks vs. doves. You can see this even today with the war in Iraq. Unlike previous wars, Vietnam and Iraq did not involve the US being attacked (WWII involved an attack on US soil, WWI was flimsier but Americans were still killed by Germans), only a perception that US "interests" were at stake. Alot of people disagreed that protecting corrupt south Asian regimes was in the US interest, just like alot of people disagreed about Iraq being a threat to the US.
My uncle is a Vietnam veteran... he's spent most of his life trying to forget about the war, not be reminded about it. He'd rather not be remebered for his military service in Vietnam, it was a low-point in his life, even though he served honorably he'd be the first to tell you Vietnam was a waste of time and he was just a young kid who volunteered to try and make a start in life.
