It seems that the people of Wisconsin and surrounding states will be seeing up to $4 per month raises in their electricity rates next year caused by new EPA rules. I guess it is worth it since so many diseases caused by pollution will be saved from happening in that first year. Naw, I don't believe that, at all.

"Industry always cries wolf whenever EPA tries to reduce air pollution," said Katie Nekola, lawyer with the conservation group Clean Wisconsin. "The fact is, the new rule will affect old, inefficient, unnecessary coal plants that should have been shut down long ago. The continued operation of those old units is costing ratepayers money, but you don't hear industry complaining about that."

Doesn't that sound just like what a friend of EPA would say?

Utility rates go up without pollution rules. Utility rates go up whenever utility companies can get approval.

So what? It's like saying it will cost more to have your garbage hauled away then just throwing it in the streets.

If you don't like clean air, move to China. Be sure to bring money when you get lung cancer.

Go ahead and continue to advocate for the poor, powerless utilities. At the mercy of the evil EPA.

The costs to the utility companies go up too.

Just part of the big "merry -go-round" we ride.

Just like the oil companies say every spring, "Prices are higher because we have to change the formulation for warmer weather."

And then in the fall, "Prices are higher because we have to change the formulation for colder weather."

The fossil fuel industry always gets their higher prices. They have a captive market. They get creative about justifying their price hikes at odd times. Mostly, they sing the same tune year after year. I don't know why they bother. We consumers don't have any alternative to paying their ransom.
