Unions, many of which are private, are legally forbidden from using union dues to contribute to political candidates. Don't hold your breath waiting for the small government, get government out of our lives hypocrites to have any problem with this.

How the the government telling a private organization what they can do with their money fit the small government get government out of our lives standard?

Can anybody name any such restrictions on corporations?

That's been a law for pretty long I understand, which is kind of sad that I just recently heard about it. I should have heard about it a long time ago because the Democrats should have been screaming bloody murder

Unions may use your dues to contribute to federal PACs, as long as they have your written consent. There is no federal law that blanket bans union PAC contributions being funded by union dues

2 errors with your posting
1) Corporations are allowed to give money to candidates, per the US Supreme Court ruling
2) Unions ARE corporations

Can you give me an example of a law where a corporation can't give money unless they have the employee's written consent?

Does that court ruling mean they no longer need written consent?

Wow, how clueless can one be. The corporations money isn't the employee's money. Union dues money is the member's money. Taking money from someone and using it to support things you yourself doesn't support is the issue. The union leadership can use THEIR own money to donate all they want.

Union dues dont belong to the union, it belongs to the employees, which is why they need permission to give away someone elses money.
