"The ACLU released a statement to the Sentinel in defense of Jerry Buell, a Mount Dora High School teacher who wrote a Facebook post calling same-sex unions a “cesspool” that made him want to throw up.
'The First Amendment protects his right to share his views – offensive or not...Mr. Buell should not be subject to disciplinary action by his employer for expressing his views.' said Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida"

Although I abhor what this teacher said, especially considering that i am gay. I feel it's best to show compassion towards those that are ignorant. I wouldn't want someone to lose their job even if they think i'm a cesspool for being born differently. I think the school should have just sent him to sensitivity training and just have given him a temporary unpaid leave or something.
The fact is
I don't understand how a sexual orientation can be a 'sin' since it's not chosen and not even a behavior.
People who believe that being born with an unchosen trait is a sin or a 'cesspool' total demean what real evil and sins are. Being born different isn't a 'sin'. Choosing to harm someone is. Being gay is NOT a choice (you can learn that fact by asking us gay people since we're first hand sources and all). It does NOT mean that we're promiscuous people or that we do drugs etc. Many gay people are celibate or have one long term partner. JUST like straight people. If you're angry about the existence of homosexuality you need to blame God or nature, not those of us who are gay since it wasn't chosen by us in the first place.
How is this possible? It seems that every week I read at least one post here about how the ACLU is a pro-communist, pro-atheist, anti-Christian organization.
I guess it must be a different ACLU, huh?
