True, back in the 30s, a lot of them were just as much white supermacists as the conservatives. Too bad they gave that up, right? Back when it was understood that their advances were for white folks only, their programs were a lot more popular.

you do know that since 1860 through today, the republican party has a BETTER record on civil rights than the democrat party does right?

I know that the Republican party had a much better Civil Rights record from 1860 until the late 1960s. I also know that they made a deal with the devil and decided to capitalize on the passage of the Civil Rights Act to pick up the racist vote in the South. starting in the late 60s. That was a shame. I also know that many smart Republicans, Karl Rove being one of them, is trying to kick the racist habit and appeal to a broader racial base. They're not quite there yet though. The GOP is still playing footsie with the racists when the chips are down.

Are you talking about liberal vs conservative or democrat vs republican. Because they aren't the same thing.

18 Reasons to Thank a Liberal: A Partial List of Liberal Achievements; 1935-2010 | Addicting Info (http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/08/26/18-reasons-to-thank-a-liberal-a-partial-list-of-liberal-achievements-1935-2010/ - broken link)

Here's just eight of the historical reasons:

1. The 8-hour workday, overtime pay, and the federal minimum wage (Fair Labor Standards Act, 1938)

2. The G.I. Bill of Rights, first enacted in 1944 under FDR

3. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, enacted under Lyndon B. Johnson

4. The Social Security Act, enacted for limited recipients in 1935 under FDR and expanded under Harry Truman and LBJ

5. Medicare,
which provides greatly subsidized health care to retirees

6. The Clean Water Act, first enacted under Truman in 1948

7. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (signed into law under Bill Clinton)

8. The Rural Electrification Act of 1936 (FDR)

So thank a Liberal today if your head didn't explode -- and maybe add a hug. Liberals need love, too!
Overwhelmingly, the things you mention in this thread are designed to keep the "average" person subservient and remain in the category of "working class". Few of these serve to strengthen the motivation or desire to get out of that mold and become independent.

Even the GI Bill was designed to provide an education to soldiers to make them "employable".

With one or two exceptions, I don't think much of any of these programs, and I sure wouldn't thank anybody for them.

Even more reasons to Thank a Liberal:

Thank a liberal - dKosopedia

Most Important Excerpt: If you ever drank a beer or a glass of wine without being thrown in jail, thank a liberal.

"Liberal policies made America the freest, wealthiest, most successful and most powerful nation in human history. Conservatism in power always threatens to undo that national progress, and is almost always frustrated by the innate decency and democratic instincts of the American people..."
