Huey P. Long was well known nationally as well. Many knew who he was who were not southerners; he was kind of perceived as a "saviour of the common man".

He was dangerous. In some ways he reminded me of Hitler in that when he gave a speech he whipped up the audience into a frenzy. He was a shrewd politician who played the socialist/Marxist role of the government providing for the people instead of the people providing for themselves. During his time, many in our area didn't even speak English, most spoke Cajun French. Education was limited in this area due to the brutality committed by union troops and the teachers they brought in to force students to speak English. My grandparents told us about the beatings (fist, slaps, and sometimes bullwhips) used on students for speaking French in school. Instead of warmly bringing southern states back into the union, it was a brutal relationship much like Germany after WW1. Kingfish campaign was born out of the ensuing poverty this helped to cause. He helped a few, but helped himself more. When shipping was moved further north of New Orleans, he had a bridge built over the Mississippi river low enough to prevent large ships from passing. That way they'd have to stop at New Orleans. He would have been a disaster for the nation.

If you're talking about the one with Sean Penn, it's not very good. It's pretty lousy actually.

As I said my political affiliation is Christian conservative. I think obama is the worst president ever. I will also say that I think he is one of the greatest politicans ever, and this coming from a right-wing "terrorist" according to common democrats

All the King's Men (1949) - IMDb

The original film with Broderick Crawford was a very good film 1949. "All The King's Men" written by Rbt Penn Warren.

I've never seen the original. I have read the novel though -- it's one of my favorites.

What are your thoughts on Huey Long and state why you feel that way.

Have a blessed day in the Lord.
What exactly, if anything is a "blessed day in the Lord"
