I have no xenophobia or dislike of the Chinese people am only concerned regarding the flow of capital out of the USA into China. I try to do my part and purchase U.S. or at least non-Chinese.
I remodeled the three bathrooms in my house recently and tried with limited success to find U.S. only made products, although all of the companies were U.S. headquartered the products were made in China.

I agree, we import way too much from China. It is difficult to find items made in the US. The trade deficit is raising the standard of living for the Chinese while lowering it for Americans. I wish our government would rethink our trade policies.
I make every effort to purchase things made in this country. Unfortunately, that is very difficult especially when I really need whatever it is I'm buying and every example of that type of item is made in China.
the only way to stop China is to slap tariffs on their goods..but that means breaking the free trade agreement we signed. On the other hand that would slowly bring jobs back to North America but as a result things would cost more and thus we could not buy as many cheap goods like we can now...

You can't win this fight. People can buy Motorola cell phone accessories from China with free shipping at 1/4 the cost of buying it locally. It's an American company with overseas factories. It's nearly impossible to find things that are actually made here even from U.S. companies. I saw a program recommending Lodge cast iron cookware, their slogan is "America's Original cookware." and they headquartered in Tennessee, for over 100 years. We ordered a dutch oven and the box said "made in China."
A good friend of mine took his 90 year old mother to visit family in china for the first time in over 50 years. He told me it is custom to bring gifts to all of the family when making such a visit and he wanted to bring them something that was from American and not made in China. The only two items he could come up with were cosmetics and whiskey.
Why do people always have to start off their posts with "Ok I'm not xenophobic, I like so-and-so people but..." or "Now I'm not racist, I have many black and Hispanic and Asian friends, but..."?
Sorry. Anyway, buying American does not a racist make.
Now, GTOLover, tariffs alone won't bring back the jobs to the U.S. and Canada. If we don't get rid of NAFTA, those jobs that, otherwise, would have gone to China will go to Mexico instead. We need to put NAFTA where it belongs, in the toilet.
