It looks like the Republican controlled legislature of Utah continue to add on business-killing and invasive regulations! I thought the GOP was for smaller government and business creation? Or is big government and killing smalling businesses okay if it limits other peoples actions that you don't agree with?

Ludicrous!

Zion curtain closing on beer-only eateries | The Salt Lake Tribune

Quote:
servers at new eateries that serve only beer may not pop off a cap on a beer bottle or pull the tab on a can in view of customers. They must install partitions or build backrooms to store or pour beer with a 3.2 percent alcohol content by weight. Heavier beer is not allowed.
Quote:
The restrictions likely will prohibit Wing Nutz from expanding in Utah, co-owner Will Miller said. “We want our customers to feel relaxed, that we won’t be pushing them out the door,” he said. “Now we’ll have to explain why we have to open a bottle of beer in a backroom and why we can’t have working taps in any of our new stores. This goes against our concept, which is one of the reasons we’ve been able to expand so quickly.”

I'm sure the liberal California approach with liquor stores on every corner, especially in lower income neighborhoods is the model of freedom loving, small government.

Who cares? Its Utah. They can do whatever they want. The Republicans are more moral conservatives than anything else. I'll let them do what they want in their states, as long as they leave mine alone.

Source that please, as anyone can see in about 10 seconds on google maps there is not a liquor store on every corner in the entire state.

You're not making the proper distinction, here. It's not because "Republicans" are passing the strictest labor laws, it's that many of the people in Utah that are in positions of power are deeply religious Mormons; they also strongly discourage cigarettes, drugs, and caffeine. They just happen to be "Republican."

So you feel it's okay for self-righteous legislators from the GOP to pass legislation that is in direct contradiction with their stated values?

Hmmm, interesting...

Well...that's a stupid statement. You SHOULD have discussed how many great, independent breweries we have in CA. And beer on tap. That would have made much more sense.

Well the GOP is supposed to be the party for small government, isn't it? It is also the party that hems and haws about the importance of sticking to the Constitution. Don't we have a little something in there about the separation between church and state? Just interesting to see that it's doing NEITHER.

It's legislators in Utah, not the GOP. Those largely Mormon legislators are representing the wishes of their largely Mormon constituents. That's what legislators are supposed to do.

As far as separation of church and state goes, government may not establish a religion. That has nothing whatsoever to do with respecting the beliefs of a religion that is widespread in the state they represent.

Clever as you erroneously believe your example is, it is by no means reflective of national standards nor is it a condemnation or unequivocal evidence of any attempt to impose religious law on the nation. In short, it's a major fail from the outset.

Seriously, get a clue.
