Allegedly 15 people were arrested for rioting at Rye Playland when a group of Muslim women were told they would have to remove their hijab for safety reasons if they wished to go on a particular ride.
I've heard about Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan at amusement parks in the past, but never anything like this blow up. It's very sad.
I can understand that safety issues especially with all of the laws in NY -- it's a real nanny state when it comes to safety laws. Allegedly the park operators communicated the safety issues to the tour operator through whom the Muslim group booked the tour. The park was even refunding money to those who couldn't enjoy the ride because removing their hijab would compromise their beliefs.
It is sad that their celebration had to end so badly.
Rye Playland did the correct thing. If the headgear poses threats to the safety of the riders, then they should not be allowed. Rye Playland offered refunds to any of the people who refused to remove their hijabs, so there is no reason why this incident needed to happen. Perfect example of muslims wanting the rules to be bent to suit their ideological desires.
This is clearly a rule that is biased and based upon a prejudice against Muslims. But the simple solution is that the Islamic community boycott the park.
Sigh. CAIR talking points down pat. I hope the Muslims do boycott Playland, it will make it nicer for everyone else.
