Japanese have become more welcoming to the U.S. military presence in their country over the past six years as fears spread that neighboring China and North Korea are threats to peace, an Associated Press-GfK poll has found.

The survey released Monday on Japanese views of other countries, security and the imperial family also showed that while about half of Japanese are positive about the U.S. and Germany, they are overwhelmingly negative or neutral toward immediate Asian neighbors China, Russia and North Korea. Opinions about South Korea are mixed.

Because it has always been profitable for their country and places around the bases make lots of money.

Remember when the USA was going to close a base in Germany? The city and country begged the USA to not close the base because of the money it brought to the community. Close those foreign bases and build up communities along our nation's border with Mexico where the Mexican police, military, and drug gangs cross our border, shoot at our people, and bring illegal drugs into our nation. Let our military protect our nation's border and act as the muscle for our boarder patrol.

The japanese, like the europeans, are a dying nation. They cannot reproduce their own numbers. I say close the bases. If the japanese want protection from their neighbors, let them defend themselves. We've done it for far too long.

Yep, it is time they put on their bootstraps and take some responsibility for themselves, rather than be dependent on our government.

I mean, you don't want them dependent on our government do you?

Yup, progressives in the US might want to subsidize Japan by maintaining bases, but conservatives here will want the country to pull itself up by its own bootstraps.
