"I authored this bill to provide parents and guardians a place where they can learn about the warning signs of their children's potential involvement with gangs before it is too late," Mendoza said in a statement.
One of the dumbest ideas to come down the pike, stupid even by California standards. In California where parents have to vie with gangs for the attention of their children (parents more than often being on the losing end of the battle) it seems rather insane to punish folks who simply can't compete with the hold that gangs have on certain youth.

What an absolute idiot. He doesn't need a bill to educate parents after the fact. If they are in court for gang related crimes, it's too late for the parents to do anything.

when I was a kid ... parents were actually responsible (LEGALLY) for their kid's actions ...
What would concern me now is how we would house both kids and parents in prisons ... can see them getting busted to hang with mom or dad in da joint!
All of us who have raised great kids, give yourself a hand, i mean that. Not easy rasising kids today, but we also cannot makes excuses for Parent's or kids either.
They say way too often kids that get in gangs, get in, because they have no one at home, no parent to give parental advice, no parent to teach right or wrong, and no parent to give the love that a growing child needs.
I think we need to get back to priorities. Some parent's have no idea at all what kind of things their kids are into, and that is sad.
