Since scientists are about 98 percent in agreement with global warming and the country is around 98 percent Christian, I suppose I could argue that Christianity is a cult, right?

That analogy makes no sense; the banks in this country which got into financial trouble did so thanks to government intervention from HUD, two Presidents, and assorted members of Congress and other influential big shots including former Walter Mondale operative & Fannie Mae President Jim Johnson.
