Some already has, via the LMDC (HUD) funds, but I agree and said earlier in this thread that before using tax money, they should solicit more private donations from NY tourism-industry sources. LOL, if you gave it to Silverstein to run, he'd probably be running around suing people to pay for it.

What you seem to fail to understand is that it's not just about a hole in the ground or a bomb site, it's about a place where people committed extraordinary acts of courage under unimaginable stress, and who are in large part - if they are still alive - still suffering. That's what people see it as.
It's not about reliving the terrorist event, it's about honoring the people that have been affected by it, and about hearing and seeing what they went through. And there are millions of people who would like to honor them (and their families) in that way. If you don't want to, don't. If you went through it and have a better way, for you, then fine.
There are people that weren't there that would like the opportunity to empathize with the people that were.

Just out of curiosity, I checked the website's donor list, and he is listed as having given at the $5 million level, as a family donation, not as Silverstein Properties, Inc. I see no mention of SPI as a donor.

Like LetsRock said , " It's a freaking bomb site not Mecca!!!!!" He ran the WTC1,WTC2 etc. He knows how to run properties. He can hire someone who can perform the day to day management of the museum. He should have giving all his insurance money to all the families who lost loved ones and were affected by 9/11.

What's the problem?
NYC wants a 9/11 memorial so be it...
But NYC should foot the extravagant bill and yearly costs associated with it.
I don't understand what would cost almost a million dollars a week to maintain...
~ a few jars of dust?
~ some pictures hanging on a wall?
~ some rusted pieces of metal?
~ some flags on poles outside?
A million dollars a week?
Common sense dictates this is another money making scam.....

But does anyone else think that it should cost $50 - $60 million dollars a year to operate?
And BTW, it will cost $20 to $25 dollars per person to enter this museum.
Seems some Democrats still think taxpayer money is endless...

Wanting a 9/11 museum is just as stupid as as requesting the millions to operate it.
There should be no museum. The idea is not only fraught with morbidity, but it's silly as hell on it's face.
Enough already with the memorials and commemorations. This country is obsessed with that sh*t to no end.

Until I watched those reciting the names of all who died recited on Sunday, I thought the site should be memorialized as a part of American history. Now I know that it represents our world's history. It is a memorial of good over evil. Of bravery. Of the innocents from all corners of the earth that died at the hands of a small group of men that were the living dead. So many families in so many countries affected.
My mom went to Turkey two months after 9-11. A veiled woman looked at my mom and said "America" and then, with her finger, made a motion of tears from her eyes down her cheek. The world cried for us that day. And with the memorial, travelers visiting the site from all over the world will remember the pain and see the resolve in our multicultural nation.

Maybe more folks should visit our historical sites.
