They are gearing up for when the time whites no longer have the votes to control the Federal government and are retreating, favoring State rights, so they have something to fall back on.
Here's your sign

Because we're not a democracy, and never were? People need to get their terminology straight. We're a representative democracy
We are indeed a limited Democracy and most people know that. The reason the right wing refuses to use the proper name for the Democratic Party is they would rather belittle and indulge in sixth grade name calling than actually participate in the debate. They are bullies that have to win at all cost in all ways.
Here's a friendly tip: If you're ever at a party and you hear someone start in on "we're not a democracy, we're a republic" get to the other side of the room as fast as you can. You have just discovered the biggest bore in the place.

It is a meaningless "point" they try to score when involved in debates that they are losing. It never is actually relevant to the discussion, but an opportunity for them to pretend superiority by knowing an arcane (if false) detail of historic insignificance.

BS. I bring it up when someone tries to use majority opinion in an argument. In which case it is perfectly relevant.

I'm not a right-winger, but when our two major parties end up doing the same things/acting the same way, you have to wonder "does your vote matter".
It doesn't work like that at the State level either, because Federal Law trumps state law, and majority rule does not work on laws that violate the Constitution.
And I've still seen right wingers claim that if the majority of the country supports it, it should be law.
There are no Federal laws pertaining to anything you suggested. Those are state issues. No violations anywhere.
