Then the point was made by you, in your answer... People pay taxes... as in the tax paying citizens.
The people, i.e. taxpayers, were only obligated for the debt in the event of fannie/freddie. I'm not defending the practice, in fact I'm criticizing it. Its other posters here claiming the federal government was not guaranteeing the loans which is not true. They absolutely did guarantee and subsidize the bonds which funded the obligations.
