Had an account with them for years and I do not get charged $12 a month for accounts with less than $1500. Where'd you come up with that one?
If you have a direct deposit you will not get charged the $12 fee. You may have an older "free checking" account. Large banks are starting to phase those out and put everyone onto the fee system so you probably would have to pay an account fee unless you have a minimum direct deposit every month of $100.

If you had bothered to read the link, you would know. It always amazes me how people comment on a thread with a link, and never bother to read the link!

When B of A goes down this path, it will be time for me to say "adios". I have been an Advantage member (read that pretty hefty accounts) for years...and I will not hesitate for a New York minute to withdraw my funds and go to TD bank. I have been thinking of doing that anyway, but this may be the deciding factor. B of A.....bye bye!
When debit cards were introduced, one of the advantages cited was that debit cards saved the banks billions of dollars, because the consumer was able to manage all sorts of transactions personally, without using bank staff. Now that their use has become so widespread, banks are trying to maximize their profits, claiming the caps on the fees they charged merchants hurt their bottom line. This isn't the fault of Democrats, or legislators. It's greed on the parts of banks.
LOL, greed? They are losing a $19 billion revenue stream. Its not like the banks are rolling in dough, many of them are on the brink of insolvency.
I hope you realize, if you have a 401K with bank stocks in them, you are among the greedy. After all, don't you want your stocks to maximize a return for you?
Well I like others had enough and we changed. I don't know anyone that likes BOA... Simple choice... pick another. I did Chase but the credit unions area great way and work very locally, which is good for an area.
How about opening several accounts, get debit cards for them and never use them. That would make BOA go to the expense of the cards and if you don't use them, there are no fees to be assessed.
Is your life really that boring...?
