We dumped BofA which we had been forced to allow to carry our mortgage when Countrywide collapsed in very early '08. We now bank exclusively with a credit union and have another that carries our mortgage, and BofA can go to....yeppers.
It's interesting how you can't tell the difference between voluntary and forced cooperation.
Baloney. Either you support values such as community governance and distributed ownership or you don't. it's yet another example of the right wing wanting to prescribe to others and retain choice themselves.
Credit unions are based on liberal values... But watch the RW hypocrites come running when their beloved corporations want to charge THEM money.
I like Credit unions because they give better rates for loans and aren't greedy with the fees like traditional banks... the only think I don't like about Credit unions is the low interest rate they give to checking/savings account but the current recession has knocked those interest rates to levels of nothing... there is no such thing as a good interest rate anymore regardless of type of bank... However, I do still bank with a traditional bank rather than a credit union because my bank allows me to have free ATM withdrawals from anywhere and has a good online billpay system.... they are also 24/7, well, close enough....
Quoting myself from earlier in the thread to reply to your accusation. In this case it is also the free market at work...the banks are looking to manipulate the system, and consumers are finding the next best alternative...the pendulum swings to the extreme sides and will eventually settle somewhere in the middle.

I am leaving the banks because our ridiculous government is in bed with the financial companies and therefore you have nothing that even remotely resembles even a semi-free market environment. The banks and the government are there solely to prop each other up...the fact that they happen to also provide financial services at this point seems to only be a legacy issue to them.

Hahah, I laugh because the Credit Unions will also realize that with more people using their services, they are going to have to collect fees.
Just beacuse they don't charge now, does'nt mean they won't change their policies in the future. Debit Cards cost Credit Unions money as well. Credit cards cost Credit Unions money etc etc etc.
I'm a customer of both BofA and a Credit Union (both for more than a decade), I see no advantage in one over the other. Got my school loan through the Credit Union. my mortage through BofA.
Just stupid overreactions from hyperbole in the media.
I believe that it was BofA that made the news too many times, telling of horror stories of how they, for example told folks on the phone, repeatedly that they were "working with them" to save their home and not lose it to foreclosure, only to have the folks suddenly learn that they were being foreclosed upon. One lady in my state went to work one day with confidence that it was all "going to be fine" only to return from work to find a large notice on the outside of her dwelling and things like that.
Stories like this have gone around about BofA and so far, I've not been presented with any reason to disbelieve them. Therefore...divorced them and with pride.
Wow, googled BofA for some fun but didn't expect to find an entire website about it. Can't know how much of it is true, personally, but sure can read some of the stories.
