I'm not planning to attend.

But, some of the grievances the protesters (in NYC) have are not that far fetched. For example: Two or three years ago the entire financial system was on the abyss, almost collapsed and almost ruined life as we know it. We're still suffering the consequences of that. Yet not one corporation or person has even been named, shamed, charged, indicted or prosecuted. Just to make the point, can you name one person or one corporation that was responsible for the near collapse?

Lehman Brothers? Standard & Poor's? But hey, why blame them when you can give them billions in bailout money instead?

^ I'll presume you are repeating what you're read or heard, because as far as I can tell, there is no formal or official government source that points the finger of blame at these two, or anyone else. Which is a scandal in and of itself, that's the point I'm trying to make.

Well, you actually asked if we could name one person or corporation who bears responsibility. I named two. And there's a lot more. If you hadn't heard about even those two, then I suggest you pay a little more attention. And yes, reading and hearing are two basic aspects of paying attention. But please don't try to be condescending, and accuse me of thoughtlessy repeating things. That's a bit uncalled for.

Now, if you wanted me to name one corporation or entity that was officially indicted or punished by the US government, then of course the answer would be zero, because we coddled our financial sector instead of punishing them, which is what I just said. And yes, that is a scandal, one which has angered many people - some of whom are camping out in lower manhattan. And while no one person who bears primary responsibilty for the financial crisis has gone to jail; at least 600 people in NYC went to jail this week for protesting, with many more to follow.

well something needs to be done.
Someone has to make responsibility, instead of just telling the people after the bailout that "the wealth will trickle down" which of course it hasn't and never was going to.

The richer continue to get richer while the middle class continues to shrink and the poor get poorer.

I hope that there point is heard.

Bad business decisions are not criminal, so not sure what you would "charge" them with. One valid complaint that some of the protestors may have, is that the gov't gave them all this money in the bailout, yet it was not done under the condition that the banks had to use that money to invest in and stimulate the economy. But that's really more a complaint against the administration than the banks themselves. I really don't think that most of the "protestors" even know what they're protesting about.

It won't. The shrinking middle class, the distribution of wealth to one tiny percentage is a no win situation. I personally don't care anymore. Republicans found the way to do it. Keep the common folk stupid, ignorant, and happy and manipulate the useful idiots to vote in their favor.

I have a job as an engineer. What my grip is that I have so much less than my parents ever did at my age. I have a disdain for the boomer generation. I pay a lot of taxes to pay the way for people who don't pay many taxes at all. As a what I call, "new middle class person" a person who works 50 hours a week, pays the most in taxes, and lives no better than the person who doesn't work. I am not socialistic in that I hate having neighbors who don't work and I see myself paying their way by workign from sunup to sundown, but I hate capitalism also. There has to be a inbetween.
