Amazing how "rich" in terms of lifestyle means an income of $20 million or more a year (and not having to "work" at all if you don't want to), while "rich" according to our tax code means earning under $175,000 a year for a family with two workers both working 80 hours an week, and having to pay all their own benefits.
If the politicians in Washington were even capable of considering actually taxing the REALLY rich, everyone who made under $250,000 a year should have to pay NOTHING. And with that kind of discretionary income added back into our economy (instead of being confiscated by Washington and totally lost to our economy in foreign wars and ruling the world), we would see prosperity return and a real economy rise to replace the one they sent to China.
1 - When you discuss the poorest 80%, are you including the 10 million to 20 million illegal aliens in this country?
2 - Does the income disparity you describe account for the fact that the "rich" are generally college educated and are much less likely to be unemployed (5% vs. 9.2% US average) while the "poor" are generally not college educated and are much more likely to be unemployed (14% vs. 9.2% US average)?

4 - Your study indicates the bottom 90 percent hold 41% of their wealth in "Pension accounts." Surely these accounts include stocks, bonds and mutual funds. This contradicts your claim in #3. Just sayin . . .
5 - The "poor" are much more likely to be unemployed (14% vs. 9.2% US average). It seems only logical that their proportion of total income would have fallen.

No but that's class warfare! Don't you know the rich are now "victims" of a "vicious smear campaign" waged by "radical leftist marxists?" My god if their taxes went up 5.6% they might only be able to afford buying off 10 legislators instead of 15. They'll have to make the "sacrifice" of only one luxury yacht this year instead of two. Gosh, the plight of the top 1%.
There was a project which stated that if the world consisted of 100 people the following would be true:
6 of the the 100 would possess half of all the world's wealth and reside in the United States of America.
Wealth will never be equally distributed. I'm not sure what the point of this thread is but Americans in general are economically much better off than the overwhelming majority of the world. So if you are American please consider your rank versus the rest of the world. Even a poor American is rich by most of the world's standards. At the end of the day most Americans are capable of taking care of themselves without worrying about what other people have in their pockets....So why not just do so?
