BTW, I'm all for legalizing Marijuana, if its done in a controlled manner, like any other prescription drug out there.
So is the federal government. They have been granting Big Pharma licenses while placing American citizens in jail for plants. I'm not a druggie or even pro-legalization but the hypocrisy of the whole thing is undeniable and each time the federal bureaucracies side with big pharma over the liberty of the individual.

It is impossible to explain why the federal government uses taxpayer dollars to arm drug runners and Mexican drug cartels while holding a double standard over Americans at large.

That said, firearms and any mind altering substances, DO NOT MIX!

The Federal Government is absolutely out of control. We should totally abolish the ATF and the DEA. This is what the idiots protesting wall street should be protesting.

"DENVER — You can have your gun, or you can have your medical marijuana. But the Obama administration now says you can’t have both.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is in the crosshairs for a recent memo prohibiting gun merchants from selling firearms to anyone who uses marijuana, including those with state-issued medical-marijuana cards."

Medical-pot users fuming over ATF's gun-sale ban - Washington Times
I do not support the use of medical marijuana. However, it is not up to the President to make laws willy-nilly. Last I checked, there is a judicial branch of the government that was created by our founding fathers for this purpose.

He consistently abuses his power by making unilateral decisions without the authority to do so. What I find particularly interesting is that by doing this he tends to alienate the very supporters that put him in that position to begin with. Dare I say that most "medical marijuana" smokers - um, I mean "patients" are liberal Democrats.

Nice garden and a garage with a Lathe & a Bridgeport Mill and a good recipe for black powder and gun powder.

All the tools the spirits can provide.

don't know bout you, but Marijuana has been illegal to own and use in the USA since long before Obama became president, so I don't know how he is making up "laws" willy-nilly for something that already existed.

BTW, ATF is enforcing these rules, not the federal Government, and on an application when you are getting a gun permit, it does ask you if you are using any type of illegal and legally prescribed drugs.

I'm ambivalent about the whole medical mj thing, but as long as the laws are in place, shouldn't they have the right to defend themselves like anyone? There have been a few cases around here (Seattle area) of medical mj grow operations being robbed.

We have to be pretty careful about denying people constitutional rights due to addictions and other problems. Is a guy who drinks 3 beers every day after work an alcoholic? In my mind, probably yes. What about the guy who has two? I have seen some pretty high estimates of the number of people with mental illness such as this one at 26%:
Mental Illness Strikes 26 Percent of US Adults (http://health.dailynewscentral.com/content/view/973/62 - broken link)

Obesity too is now being redefined as an illness--a mental illness I presume. Should all those people be disarmed? Wouldn't Obama just love that.

In case you were not aware, the militia are all eligible male citizens, obligated to train, fight and die, on command, since 1777. I think you'd agree that the militia have no RIGHT TO LIFE or LIBERTY. They are SUBJECT to regulation in the manner in which they bear arms.

People (non-citizens, non-subjects) do have the protected right to bear arms.

This is in harmony with the Declaration of Independence, wherein we read job #1 = secure rights, and job #2 = govern those who consent.

Citizenship for natural born Americans is an consensual drop in status from sovereign people to subject citizens. If citizenship is imposed at birth, that would make it involuntary servitude, because citizenship has mandatory duties.

When you read the gun laws in that light, it is obvious that they are limited in application and scope.

You need to check again, the judicial branch doesn't make laws! And the Congress passed the legislation outlawing the purchase of fire arms by individuals who use illegal drugs.

Since you don't have the slightest clue about what powers what branch has, your argument is risible at best.

Am I the only one who thinks recreational drug users shouldn't have guns?

A responsible firearms owner knows (or should) that a firearm and mind-altering substances should not and do not go together.
